简体中文Nothing adds to the ambience of a yard like fine-looking wood decorations. They can be as simple or as ornate as you would like. From birdhouses made of cedar and painted white to miniature trees in apple or grape varieties, ornaments are an ideal way to add charm and whimsy to your garden.
One of the easiest wood decorations to build is a birdhouse. Cedar cutouts or small wood sculptures are one of the simplest do it yourself wood yard decorations, taking only a simple square shape you cut with a jigsaw from half inch exterior grade plywood. As with most do it yourself projects, they are best left on their own and not supported by nails or screws. Wood decorations are entirely customizable from simple to whimsical cartoons patterns to elaborate, realistic shapes. You can even cut the wood decorations to match your fence or deck. You can leave the top with a smooth, flat surface or you may choose to make a lip.
If the weather is warm, why not construct a kitty playground or a birdbath? Construct a pair of cat trees using cedar and nail the posts into the ground. The beautiful thing about cedar is that when it dries, it takes on a lovely sheen. Use paint or stain and let the wood cure to achieve a unique look.
Create a birdbath using birdbaths of various sizes, some pre-built and some of your own. Use fine-grit sandpaper to level the wood and fill any chips around the edges. Place a couple of drop stones in the water and watch them settle to the surface with a little droop.
If you have access to a greenhouse, why not construct a small chicken coop? A simple structure consisting of four walls and two floors with a few window spaces will work. Use cedar for the framing and try to find decorative pieces that match. Add a small screened in porch for fresh air and a pergola on the roof for additional shade. Watering the birds and chickens from a high pergola is an idea that has worked well for many gardeners.
